Pull the rope?
Leading a climb (i believe) is the only way to respect the climb. Hanging around on TR doesn't make you climb the route as it was meant to be climbed. Besides, unclipping draws on TR is (in my opinion) way harder than lead clipping. It's not that I never TR, Maypop is super fun to TR from Mr. Bungle, I just think it's a bastardized form of climbing.
Today I quit my job. And then I told my boss to go fuck himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars. Pass the asparagus.
I lead and TR, but I find leading much more fun and rewarding. Top roping is like playing touch football. You can go out on the field and do all the moves without the fear factor. It's fun and a good way to develop your repertoire of moves. You can execute that perfect slant without fretting about the middle linebacker who's waiting to take off your head. Now, on game day when you have on the pads, it becomes a whole different game. You can feel the butterflies, and There is much more stimulation. Before you run that slant, you know someone will be waiting for you with open arms! That's the same kind of stimulation that Wes eloquently described earlier.
it seems as though some of you don't have a strong grasp on the english language. I didn't call anyone a bastard I said TRing is a bastardized form of climbing since while on TR you can do things such as swing out and deviate from the intended path of the climb, thus making it a bastardized climb. No one is a bastard unless their mother slept around.
