Accessible Rappels in the Gorge?

I was just wondering if there are any/many accessible rappels in the gorge area, preferably with good anchors. Anything 60-100 feet would be nice. Sorry if this type of question and/or activity is frowned upon within the community. I am fairly new to the RRG scene so forgive my ignorance.

Ya, there's a spot where you can repel right in front of the security desk! I would suggest one of the 4 major stairwells however.

There are not many anchors already set for rappelling only (or any that I know of)But if you know what your doing (you should before you go of course) You can build your own. If you DONT know how to do this please get some good instruction before you go.

Huh, I always thought it was called propelling? half moon is easily accessible from the top, but I am not sure if their are any easily accessible anchors. You could anchor to a tree, but using vegetation as an anchor may be frowned upon in the RRG (i really don't know, i just know that here in NC it is not encouraged and sometimes illegal). Eclipse is listed in the online guide as a top-rope route, so that might be a good place to try and anchor in for some sport propelling.

Tourists have detroyed anything that might have been a decent anchor on top of Half Moon. Getting up there is as sketchy as rapping there. It's just a good place to die.Weave that rappelling rope into a door mat. you'l get your moneys worth and live longer.

Sounds like rappelling is basically non-existent. That's fine, climbing all day is a great way to spend a day anyways. Thanks for the input guys.

out of curiosity..why in the world would anyone rappel except to get off a climb?
