well you are more likely to come across needle tracks in the southern region than any other kind of tracks.
If the box is not there to get peoples "impulse" money that they'll take the time? If the gate is there to raise peoples awareness I think it does it in a negative way. Negativity isn't something you want to bring into the equation. When you do, where do you go from there? To a positive effort? I don't think you can with out making the negative effort look like just what it is. A negative effort to shake down dollars.

We have boxes up and they have been utilized but they are not the safest bet for leaving money(so we do not encourage it). I still have a note left behind from the ass who busted the one at coal bank. We're working on a redneck-proof solution to that. Bear with us.
Maybe I should bring a donation jar with me every time I climb. Will that work for you all?

could be worse...bcombs wrote:Meanwhile there is a dude waiting in the weeds with a screwdriver ready to pry the lid open. So in the end we all lose. The girl lost her fiver. Her team lost, no rock chalk jayhawk this year. RRGCC lost because the dude in the weeds stole the fiver. The group this girl is with lost because they have to scrape her up off the base of Severn Bore after she somehow finds her way to the top and leaps off. Humanity's loss is the girl, who could have done something with her life but invested to much time in college hoops. Man, what a day.

easy gurl...no need to go off on rednecks (I resent the term, it's actually an ethnic slurr.) As far as making something break-in proof against a highly motivated jackass who has nothing but time and privacy. That ain't gonna happen.
Maybe you should set some jars out. Hell, maybe I should set some jars out.

If you give a man a match, he'll be warm for a minute. If you set him on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life!
The gate might not be the best idea, but its better than nothing. If you have an idea to make money you should organize an event.
I'm certain that if you contacted the RRGCC and informed them of a money making event that you'd like to run they would be very cooperative unless of course they had to front a bunch of cash, in which case they might have to think more carefully about the outcome of the event first.

I think we're getting a bit off track on the original intent of this gate.
It's not there to force donations. It's there for the people who may not know this isn't NPS, USFS or other public land. It's land that is owned, paid for, and managed by climbers. If they want to give after they realize that then great, if not then no big deal.
