New Gate

Access, Rehab Projects, Derbyfests and more...

What's your take on how the new unlocked gate installed at the Southern Region will be viewed?

It's an aggressive, heavy handed, coercive, elitist dick move

it would be aggressive if anticlbmr were posted out side the gate in a rocking chair with a 12 gauge, and a pitbull, as it stands, I think it at least causes people to think about where they are every time they go through it.

Is there going to be some sign on the gate explaining why it is there? A donation drop box? The pictures I saw from the day it was installed didn't show it.

I am a cynical person in general, so I think the gate would be pretty much ignored by most.

Climbing at the Red, we get spoiled... Camping for $2 and climbing for free. Where else would you get this?

NRG- $5 for the cheapest camping (or is it $6 by now?), and it is nothing compared to Miguel's. Most campgrounds will ask $8-10 per night.
Gunks--pay for the annual or day pass, and camping sucks, unless you have friends to stay with.
Red Rocks-- pay for the annual or day pass, and camping sucks
HP40-pay $8/day for camping and climbing
Hueco...

And obviously the list can go on... The same people who pay to climb at any of those areas often begrudge mere few bucks at the Red. Because if you don't have to pay, nobody is standing at the gate collecting money, why do it? An extra beer from the beer trailer is more important.

Yes, Meadows put one up for us. I am working on some nice wooden ones (with the help of mark jackson) that will replace the temporary one in the near future.

I'd say it has already done its job, look at the discussion about donating to the CC that has already resulted.

"pretty much ignored by most" isn't the same as everyone ignoring it. If even 5% of the climbers who gangbang Solar every weekend decide to chip in $2, then the gate has done its job of getting us a little closer to owning the PMRP.

Yeah, I suppose so. It would be interesting to see how much money is actually collected in the drop box. Would it be $50/month? More, less?

I should have read the other thread first... So much verbal diarrhea over something so minor.

Who would have thought that a simple gate with a sign on it would be perceived as threatening, and all that? I guess some people perceive threats to personal liberty everywhere.
