Info for Visitors

Post by Chickadee »

Hi guys,

Im planning to come to Red River Gorge (wooop!!) in Aug for a couple of weeks. Three questions:

- How easy would it be to find a climbing partner there?

- Do you need a car?

- Whats the closest (internatonal) airport and how easy is travel from the airport to Red River Gorge

Any info would be greatly appreciated
feel free to either post here or email to jackie.chickadee@rocketmail.com

Lexington is closest, but I guess Cincinnati and Louisville are more accurately described as "international"... about 2 hours away. A woman traveling by herself will be inundated by a surplus of (overly) eager climbing partners here. A car is helpful for sure but a lot of people get by just finding a way to Miguel's (yes you need a car to get there unfortunately) and then bumming rides to the crags from there. My wife did that for a while and it worked for her for several months on end.

Feel free to PM or whatever with more questions.

-easy to find a partner at Miguel's usually.

-a car is not mandatory once you're there but getting to the Red can be tricky, there's no public transport around here.

-Cincinnati is a pretty big airport. if you're trying to not have to rent a car, you might be able to find someone on here to pick you up and give you a lift down.

louisville is not bad to fly into either, I live 10 minutes from the airport and have given several people rides to and from the red from there. PM me when the time is close and I can probably help out.

I have thought of that before, it could actually be a pretty good part time gig
