Well you obviously have a beef with God being mentioned in schools. Are you ok with evolution and atheism being taught? Does this violate the constitution?Wes wrote:michaelarmand, teh main point of teh 14th amendment is to prevent majorities in cities/states from passing laws or making policy that is protected by teh bill of rights. Maybe you are just dense, but having a majority stack a school board to force school to teach creationism is exactly teh kind of thing they had in mind with it. Pretty sure it was created in response to states passing laws that prevented former slaves from owning firearms to protect themselves.
I've been a gumby longer than you've been climbing.

Evilution doesn't equal atheism. I am pretty sure that if any teacher taught atheism in any public school there would be a mob at the gates that afternoon. But, no, I don't think any *theism should be given preference. Esp. if it is given preference over actual science. Evolution is a pretty solid bit of scientifically proven information. It should be taught, just like plate-tectonics, biology, and geology. The whole ID is just a way to sneak creationism in, even the people that promote it say so. But, hey, lets keep dumbing down the kids for political gain! I don't have a problem at all with people practicing whatever faith / lack of faith sorta thing they want, but when it crosses the line to any sort of official promotion, then I have a problem. And you should to, because one day you might find yourself in the minority, and that is what the bill of rights is about. Protecting the minority from an over zealous majority, no matter how well meaning they may be.michaelarmand wrote:Well you obviously have a beef with God being mentioned in schools. As Ben F. put it, "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting over what is for dinner." So support the bill of rights, just in case, one day you are the sheep...

I know what you mean. All those displaced Afghans. It was horrible. At least they weren't displaced by us. Maybe your anecdotal arguments work where you're from and with your friends, but the truth is a bit different.cliftongifford wrote:...But you can't do enough good to make up for the MILLIONS of innocent lives lost, people displaced, and a less stable world...pigsteak wrote:did ya learn anything clifton?
The truth is Afghan refugees are creating problems as they have continued to RETURN to Afghanistan since we toppled the Taliban. These are the displaced people of Afghanistan. We did not displace them. For the first time in their lives, they feel like their home is safe enough for them to return.
Sure is a lot of fun while you're doing it...

can you name me any war that didn't have collateral damage dead? thank God you weren't running the country when Hitler was in power. How dare we helped out then by invading a foreign country. that being said, Iraq (2nd time) was questionable, Afghanistan not much better (as far as our execution).cliftongifford wrote:Regardless of whether you're doing good or not, or think you are... What constitutional authority do you have for being there? And you didn't mention the thousands of DEAD due to collateral damage... That's the truth as I see it.
So I guess you feel W and Obama both need to be tried for war crimes? Are you also calling for Obama's impeachment for continuing to carry out this illegal war? All I am asking is for consistency in your reasoning.
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
The AUMF is the constitutional authority. Joint resolution from congress authorizing the president to use necessary force against those responsible for 9/11. That's planning, aiding and committing. Afghanistan knowingly harbored Al Quaida which was viewed as aiding our attackers.cliftongifford wrote:Regardless of whether you're doing good or not, or think you are... The AUMF has been attacked and upheld by the SCOTUS. Agree with it or not, if the SCOTUS upholds something, it is, by definition, constitutional.
So we removed the government responsible for aiding the conspirators of 9/11. Why are we still here? Why are we occupying this nation? Why?!?! Why, dear God, why?!?!?!? Aid. We are still here at the REQUEST of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. We are providing the aid they have requested. It's kinda like Iraq, but in reverse. Iraq asked us to leave, so we are leaving. The Afghan government has requested we stay and help, so we stay and help.
The thousands DEAD? It sucks. It's horrible. We do what we can to limit collateral damage. Sadly, it is part of war. Even moreso when your enemy hides behind women and children as they fight. You wanna know how we are different? We provide aid when we can. We rebuild what we destroy. Our enemies do not. Do you think insurgents rush innocent bystanders off to the best treatment facilities when they are caught in the crossfire? Do they repair the roads and water sources blown up by IEDs? the answer is no.
And I would think the "truth as (you) see it" might not be as truthful as the truth I see...
