I agree totally with having the meetings at gyms nearby occassionally or at the red, just in the evening. I also think that access to place oil crack, arena, etc... would be awesome but the focus should be on maintaining what we have now. That to me means PMRP as well as maintaing routes that are known to have sketchy gear in places like Funk Rock, military, etc. where things are a little more controlled. Lastly, how about a trail days on Sundays? I mean we are all here to climb right? Working hard labor all day saturday puts a damper on my climbing sunday. However reverse that schedule and I, and maybe I am the only one who thinks this way, will be much more likely to show up. Ods are I got owned on saturday, feel a little slow, and know hard sending wont happen so might as well get thrashed working on some trails.

not a bad idea. you could have them during the week then too. You could even create fund raising competitions between cities
Agreed.

Anyone who's never been to, say, climb time, would be astounded at the number of regular RRG climbers who frequent the place.

i like kafishs swap to sunday. i think some of the issue there is some folks get one day or are trying to leave early on sunday. maybe two day trail days?
my biggest suggestion would be the rocktoberfest being posted ASAP not the month before. i know some of the constraints there but a little something is better than all of it at once a week before.
getting the word out, going to gyms(thats how i got introduced to the coalition, by SSS no less) slide shows, and good ol' PR. maybe some pamphlets that could be passed out at the cliffs by members or officers what have you.
aybe some kind of drawing for trail day participation (at the end of year; rope, shoes, cabin??) as well as a link for trail updates/info/troubleshooting.

all in all i say B+

I think the idea of having meetings at alternative locations is good. They used to all be in Lexington and we moved them to Torrent to increase participation. Maybe, however, they could be more informational meetings. It's impossible for me to get to Cincinnati, Louisville or Knoxville in the evenings. But, we are working on allowing meetings via telecommunication. If we can do this we would be able to have these meetings in varying locations. Wait a second...this sounds like an excuse.

In regards to this comment I want to make an important distinction. The RRGCC is dedicated to maintaining access to climbing areas NOT maintaining individual routes. None of our efforts or funds raised go towards maintaining fixed gear. However, what is kind of oxymoronic is that the primary metric of our success is the number of open routes. In 2008 the number of routes open in the "Southern Region" was 516. By the end of 2009 the number of open routes in the "Southern Region" was 550, an increase of 34 routes. I guess my point is that, although the RRGCC does not concern itself with route development, we do work to create conditions under which route development can occur.

Why don't you have a live meeting at torrent and have it broadcast on the internet. Have the meeting about an hour after dark. That lets everyone grab a bite and a beer and settle in for the "pitch". I'm sure that we have enough technophiles who would love to show their gear off by making a "virtual" meeting take place.

well then what the fuck's the difference - thats kind of hair-split isn't it? "if we own it -they can't close it" and we own routes that we put up ya know? we get so caught up in this wordy board-up-the-ass bullshit sometimes lol. Being a Louisville guy I am using the word "we' liberally as well as the concept of ownership in regards to the RRGCC since everybody knows that Louisville doesn't really count anyway :)

KD, I see a huge difference in what Bill is saying. "If we own it, they can't close it." They being private or government landowners who decide one day that they are sick of climbers on the land. It does not apply to specific routes.

Look at Pocket Wall ... do you miss it? Look at happened with the Jeep Jamboree. Without following protocol (you know, gain input from community), the state said, "No more!" That could happen to us.

And Louisville does certainly count, just not in basketball.
