ah good point... I've never parked at the Motherlode since I'm not worthy to even LOOK at that crag.

I'm sure that when this is all said and done and we (please dog please!) have access to climb on the Murray property that we will have to figure out workable alternatives to vehicle traffic. Clearly the free-for-all has not worked, and I don't have a lot of confidence that climbers can be trusted to obey signs about where to park and where not to park. Look how many people disregarded the No Trespassing signs! Personally I think gates and a large, mandatory parking area may be something to consider. Making the hikes in longer won't be such a bad thing, either. It will get rid of that gym atmosphere that develops out there sometimes.

Good faith actions may help smooth the tensions between the oil company and the climbing community.

-Posting of signs indicating where to park
-Information regarding the "rules" to follow when climbing in the southern region posted on this site such as "Only park where indicated", ""Do not block any equipment", stuff that seems basic to the normal individual.
-Having the RRGCC sit down with the company to see how we can work with them so that both can utilize this land in the manner each sees fit.

Hopefully, the oil company will see that we are attempting to work with them along with trying to correct/prevent stupid actions by a few.

Do we have any information on what day this took place and where it happened? At least this would limit the possibilities of who to consider lynching

I would think they would be open to working things out with us particularly since there are the continued efforts to purchase this property.

I called for the climbers head because that was how, emotionally, I felt (the stupid fucker).
On a more mature note, it is water under the bridge and damage control is the order of the following days. Unfortunately we are not dealing with friendly oil workers now, but with the administration of the company that is displaced in another state. They don't have to deal with us at all and can just make a decision and move on, which they seem to have done. At this point all the good will with the oil workers won't change things for the immediate future. Of course, it can't hurt. We should, for the immediate future keep a low profile in the active oil sites and stay out of their way. Be nice and deferential and if need be, leave. That is what I would do.
The RRGCC is attempting to make contact and have a discussion on the matter to try to come to a resolution that will be agreeable to both groups.
For the future, we as a community need to put in place mechanisms that will help insure this doesn't happen again- as I previously stated, signage and alternative parking.

the lurkist, So does this mean we ignore the signs and climb anyway.

I hope we have some answers soon, what does all this mean for our future purchase of the Murray property? Will we own the land but have no way to access it?

easy there boy..jumping the gun a bit aren't ya...how would lurkist know the answer to these questions? as was stated, RRGCC is looking into it all..give em time to do there job..geesh, today's climbers want answers yesterday...

from the size of the current donations in the auction, I am wondering if enough people even care if this area gets closed. lots of talk, little action. (by the population as a whole)

at a local bouldering area of ours, the private owner has mandated that once a specific number of cars are in the parking lot, more climbers are not welcome. would climbers be up for this at the red? let's say that once 10 cars are parked at the Lode, then you have to go somewhere else...

Don't worry kids. I'm thrilled at the donations at the auction. These are solely personal donations. Don't jump the gun. Many people seem to be excited. This is not including the corporate sponsorships.

Further, the RRGCC is negotiating with the Oil Company. It'll all work out.

So once the RRGCC buys the Murray property could this same situation happen again? Does the rights of the oil companies supercede the rights of the land owners?

pigsteak, I hear ya piggie...I am not trying to beat a dead horse or start any new rumors...just want to know what's up...I was thinking it would be cool to go to the darkside this weekend but I don't know if it is open.
