You can't. Just try to love everyone including yourself, stand by your own principles, and choose your battles. Racism is just one form of prejudice.

As a Christian, I am being faced with prejudice more and more. Even on this board, and FYI, I notice that the criticism is limited to Christians. I really don't think it's fair that I am branded because of the thumpers. I also often face criticism from the thumpers because I practice Christ Centered Yoga instead of attending a church where I am usually not welcome. In the end, I only have to answer to myself and God. Do I hate atheists? Well, nooooo! Some of my best friends are atheists, and I usually get more flack from them than they do from me, but I respect their beliefs.

Oftentimes I find that folks from the north think southern is synonymous with stupid. I face prejudice there even though I am often more educated than they. I grew up in California and was called an "Okie" even by some of my teachers.

Then there's that being a woman prejudice my generation had to overcome.

Prejudice isn't limited to race. Perhaps before we judge others for being racists, we might look inside at our own prejudices. Pain is pain. That being said, I can't imagine what it must have been like to be anything but a WASP when I was a girl. I could always go in the front door, eat in any restaurant, and sit in the good seats. My memories of what we were taught to believe make me sad.

Apparently, that was all about me.

Pigsteak, there is a historical reason that your friend said everyone in Corbin is racist. It's a horrid story. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... Id=7772527

I agree that hillbilly, redneck, etc. is a type of bias. How many of you go into Koops and think "God I hope I don't have to speak to these overweight, chain smoking hillbillies staring at me?" Get to know them, they're nice people.
Jesus only knows that she tries too hard. She's only trying to keep the sky from falling.

One of the guys at the table (you know, going on 80 and puffing away) asked me if I planned to climb at the Motherlode that day and he thought it was a great clif. Now isn't that cool?

Prejudice as a Christian on the board? How do people know you are Christian so they can prejudge you? Do you really think people keep records of that stuff? Disagreement does not qualify as prejudice. Your post has me a bit confused. Perhaps you could do a little more explaining?

come on caribe, surely you jest...in is so "en vogue" on here to belittle, ridicule, and put down as ignorant morons christians. you, bram, and shamis come to mind immediately as folks who loathe or have great disdain for people of faith, most notably christians. now, if you fail to see that, maybe you need to step back and see how your voice on here impacts those folks....just because you three amigos are so certain that god does not exist, to go to the next level and proclaim that everyone who doesn't see it just like you is a naive embicile is just, well bad manners.

its more than disagreement from you guys...disagreement would acknowledge two sides making valid points. your side asserts there is no other side...

you asked, hope that helps.

sorry dipsi..I don't even consider myself religious, but it is blatant to me too....

sprag, I read the story, but that still doesn't prove they are all racist...if anything, it proves quite the opposite, that they are dealing with it. sounds like mr. Slone fits in fine.

but nonetheless, a sad story in America's history.
