so the 2 sides of this argument have already came out I see! krampus, do you see any difference in a rope that is obviously stuck, perhaps retrievable with the right gear, and an abandoned cam that was used to lower on? I do! Anyone could get a rope stuck just through bad luck, and it sucks that someone would steal it before you could return with the proper means to retrieve it. This doesn't seem the same to me as an emergency bail anchor or equivalent that was obviously left because someone failed on the route, or failed to retrieve it because they were lacking in the proper skills. so where do you draw the line?

hhmmm, well, if I have the means to retrieve an abandoned rope from a tree with the gear I have on me, hell yeah, I'm a climber and its a tree, I would get my shit down. Something like a rope, I may try to return it, I wouldn't cut it cus that is just leaving unnecessary tat. a bail beaner before a crux, its mine, something to help me clean, not mine, anchors, definitly not mine, a rope hanging from anchors also not mine. I think its obvious when gear is abandoned and a rope in a tree when I don't know how long its been there or how long it will be there, its mine.

some reservations..... Whatever, I'm a huge fan of the booty, especially when it shakes. But I would never take what isn't mine

dude you are confusing the hell out of me (except for the booty shake, I am with you there). isn't booty by definition some one else's abandoned property? i guess i can see where you are coming from (with the abandoned part).

Well Done. the thread about thieves has taken over by pirates.

maybe next year the fundraiser can host a booty treasure hunt.
