Ongoing Trail Work

I think it would be cool if there was a trail between the North 40 and Purgatory, or Bronaugh Wall and Courtesy Wall...or something like that. The Playground, Shady Grove, B-Wall, and Purgatory all are sunny in the morning, so it would give you an option for warming up in the shade in the morning, then crossing over to the other side of the drainage in the afternoon.

there kinda is. has been for about 3 years. you can take the mtb bike trail from one side to the other. one on the back side , purg/n4o would be a good addition.

This is the place to post up if trail work is needed in Red River Gorge. It is also the place to post up if you and your crew accomplish trail work so that we can effectively "cross it off the list."

This year has been unusually rainy. Last year at this time, rainfall in this area was down about 6 inches from normal. This year, we are now up about 9 inches. Consequently, the GEKRJBP (Great Eastern Kentucky Rhodo Jungle and Briar Patch) has kept us busy whacking it into submission.

Two weeks ago, MV trails were pretty overgrown. Liz and I, along with hired local help, now have them in fairly good condition. We do appreciate any help those of you who frequent the Valley can provide. It is a huge job with approximately 4 miles of trails. And with no revenue steam, all maintenance costs are out-of-pocket.

A reminder that the Friends of Muir Valley will be conducting its annual Trail Day here Saturday, September 26.

There are still a few trail portions that need weedeating. Any volunteers? We expect about 14,000 visitor-days this year. Hopefully, a few of you have an hour or two to spare.

thanks to jeff neal for chainsawing the logs from the trail to choco factory. scobro and rjackson sat around and watched him work, but they wanted their props as well....so here ya go ladies.

I was given first shot at a trad FA on Saturday, and after 6-8 feet (ok, 4 feet) I bailed. Or should I say the route kicked me in the nuts...just solidifies my place as a sport wanker.

the trail/road that goes from the sore heel parking lot to rival wall - shire side has a place that is extremely muddy. i know efforts were made to improve drainage to prevent it from getting so muddy, but perhaps more work can be done or a bridge/stepping stone path could be made. it looks like some people have put down some scraps of wood already.

another small project would be to improve the steps to rival wall.

neither issue is very big - but both would make a nice improvement

what - if any - of these projects have been completed? any other areas needing some trail TLC?

trail to sunnyside could use a chainsaw. there were about 3 or 4 downed trees.

trail to pebble beach needs clearing

trail to the zoo could use an old piece of webbing added to the steep part. it could really use new steps too.

The trail to Fortress has about 3 large trees across it.
