Well I for one have made a one time payment for 2009, and increased it from 2008. I know $30,000 isn't chump change - but even if we exclude all other fundraising and larger sponsors/givers....it only takes 358 people giving $84 to meet the goal.

How many people climb in the PMRP? I know the folks that lounge around here know what is at stake and donate. I guess I'm wondering if it is the economy or maybe we are just not getting the word out.....

if there were a donation drop box at the "kiosk" outside of miguels, this discussion wouldn't be necessary.

i know it's relatively easy to donate via paypal, etc... but climbing folk don't really jump on that as quickly as they would, say, dropping spare pizza change in a bucket..........and believe me, a few thousand climbers a year would certainly add up.....

but even if you don't buy that, consider this: that kiosk at miguels is the only face of the RRGCC that MANY climbers ever see. i'm not saying that it needs to be nice and shiny like the signs at hueco, but i haven't seen that thing change at all in the past 4 or so years... pretty cobwebby in there.

toad857, Thanks for your feedback and I've got materials to go to dress up the kiosk a bit. I had been waiting for the wasps to disappear or slow down (and then there's school).

I love the idea of a donation box, but the problem is, it's not particularly safe. Even at Miguel's. In fact, someone busted the one that we had at Coal Bank - just for a measley $16.

So, ideas are welcome. The RRGCC doesn't belong to the 9 BOD members. This is your organization too.

Yeah - a donation box is really a target for theft. And I think it give a false impression. People dropping a few dollars (or cents) in a box is a nice feel good thing - but it won't lead to us meeting our financial goals. We need more people to step up and "own" this debt. RRGCC membership seems like the best way to do this.

I just read something about a bullet proof glass wishing well in Telluride that worked like a charm. They raised the public funds in no time. Of course, that's Telluride and this is Slade.

Monthly donations is the way to go. I don't trust the security of those little donation boxes either.

I still dig some guy's idea of selling shots at Miguel's for $5. I'm surprised President Charlie hasn't jumped on that yet.

Anyway, sign up for monthly donations and hopefully, you'll have a rope mailed to you in February!
