Is there any such thing as a comfortable hanging belay???

Placing a cam? Slotting a nut? Slinging a tree?

like has been said, hanging belays aren't all that bad unless you're looking at every pitch of a 10+ pitch route being a true hanging belay. And carrying a camelback or BD bullet/bb pack is about perfect for summit days. If you're doing Epinephrine or Iron Messiah or a route with a lot of chimneys, make sure your pack has a reinforced haul loop. If you don't have a long approach, carry a beefy Misty or Yates harness and enjoy it.
