what is it?

Post by ynot »

In the evening my eyes start burning like they are dry or something. No problem all day, just in the evening after watching Tv or on the computer. Is it from staring at a screen or is this another one of those, I'm getting old ,deal with it, things? anyone know?

Maybe allergic to something. I have a little trouble adjusting to the climate change in my house this time of year.

When staring at the TV or computer your blink rate is slowing down allowing your eyes to dry out. Look away every few minutes, blink more, or get eye drops.

what saxman said.

also, there is a disease known as dry eye syndrome (my dad has it) that is fairly common in older folks (I have no idea how old you are, no insult intended). it sounds pretty terrible and gets progressively worse as you get older. your eyes essentially stop producing tears such that your eyes dry out, burn and itch, and your vision can be impaired. there is a drug now that effectively treats the problem called restasis (twice a day eye drops). if you think that you could have a problem then you should check with an eye doctor.

After having some damage due to allergy related dry eyes, I did a cycle of Restasis and it really did work for me. Since then I've given up on contacts during allergy season and haven't had any other troubles.
