Coming of Age
Being a hippie could be a bad thing to be if he/she does not shower or work. The other drawback could be drug addiction--how many real hippies could be so peace loving and laid back if they were not high or drinking or tripping most of the time?
When I was a hippie--I did shower and have a job--so that part can be done.
I have occasionally met some hippies who are not constantly altered by substances, but this is rare.
A good book about hippie communes is "Drop City"--check it out.

Hauling a big ego up a route adds at least a full grade.
'hippie' is a historical term. since it is not the 1960's anymore, there are no more 'hippies'.
but let's take a step back--what's with the labeling in the first place? a human being is probably the most complicated thing in the universe, so be careful when you are tempted to categorize one.
there is no such thing as a 'crazy person', but some people do crazy things.
there are no 'climbers', but some people climb things....a lot
there are no 'assholes', but some people do asshole things.
et cetera.
