Ha, actually my first response to mental masturbation comment was, "what isn't?"

To continue a conversation from the weekend....essentially nothing I've ever come across cannot be plugged into one of three categories.......

1) Things I can control.
2) Natural Disasters.
2) The shit I'm not going to worry about.

I can only (try to) control the nature of my intentions so that's what I focus on. I've noticed the only thing that helps me do this is keeping my understanding of things as simple as I can.

It's when people start dissecting things and using rationalization or denial (whether they know it or not) or endlessly discussing an irrelevant tangent or chasing a distraction down a rabbit hole or thinking they are so damn smart they can tell someone else how to live their life better that the point gets lost.

With every interaction, you can either try to make friends or enemies, or make stronger friends or stronger enemies.

I just try and make friends more often than not, and it works pretty well most of the time, but I still have a long way to grow.

tradmike, I'm glad you brought up the idea of duality. You're absolutely right. We would not have the opportunity to learn and become wise if we didn't have the choice to go astray.

Bcombs, you referred to the subject matter I've brought up as 'nonsense'. I want to know what you think. Are you just a body? Do you have any sort of non physical connection with the earth, with other people? Do you have a higher self that knows good from evil? Is there good or evil? Do you continue to exist once your body dies? These are important questions to ask yourself if you haven't already. Let's forget about my alleged 4th dimensional experience. What have you experienced that convinces you that such a thing is 'nonsense'?

I also like charlie's post. Simplicity is good. Trying to make positive ripples is pretty much the best thing physically that you can possibly do.

I don't want to sound overly dramatic, but if anyone knows dhuff in meatspace - check on him. Make sure he's sleeping, eating, bathing (by climber standards) and is able to make sense and talk about something other than this stuff.

this thread is a paradox. be careful; the time-space continuum is not as stable as you think.
