was on the grand last week. just getting to the lower saddle in the snow and ice at high altitude was a bitch. crazy wind and storms. there's no comparison...anticlmber wrote:sounds like a regular day in the gorge for most ohitians.Savage wrote:False! the dude had to basically run the entire way, all between 7000-13,770ft! Then, add in that is about 14 miles of hiking, 12,000ft cumulative gain (and then back down the same amount).SCIN wrote:Wow, someone walked across the top of a mountain really fast.
Oh yeah, and you have to free solo 5.8 and down climb 5.6 with a couple thousand foot fall taunting you.... and all while you are completely exhausted.
But i guess you are right, its basically just an easy walk. =)

I subscribe to r & i and climbing and usually read them both cover to cover every month. I feel like it's a way of educating myself on what's going on in the climbing community in addition to websites like this. I can get trip beta, gear reviews, and stories of crazy shit that happens to people while climbing.... and inspiration in many ways. All while supporting the climbing community.

Rock and Ice is the best climbing magazine out there, hands down. Climbing fucking sucks. It was better before it was bought out by a corporate tyrant who turned it into a mag that isn't worth wiping with. UC is getting better, but DPM certainly has stolen their thunder. Their HD video platform is pretty nice although the online version of their magazine needs a better interface to read.
Climbing Magazine was good for a while, but about three years ago it started going down hill.
UC is a waste of paper and they shouldn't even bother printing it. We get ten copies at our gym each issue and we maybe sell one.
I like Rock and Ice's format, they might be my favorite.
Dead Point is certainly the most popular at the gym, but it is also free. It certainly has some funny articles.
