Asking for help during Trail Day

Post by weber »

In 2008 Muir Valley hosted more than 12,000 visitor-days, and it appears that 2009 attendance is going to top that -- more than any other single climbing venue in the area. We are heartened by the countless number of you visitors who have stopped us to say "thanks" and ask how you might help. Here's a good way to demonstrate your appreciation and commitment:

Muir Valley Trail Day -- Saturday, September 26, 2009 -- Sponsored by Friends of Muir Valley

There are many projects desperately needing attention. We hope there will be enough in attendance to help complete them, but at this time, pre-registration is disappointingly low.

Work to be done this year includes, among other projects, finishing the trail up to the new Kipp Trummel-developed area ("Front Porch") and an entirely new trail to the new climbing walls in the Hatton Hollow.

If you have the time and opportunity to help us, we would really appreciate your spending the day (or whatever part you are available) with us on the 26th. Meet in the parking lot at 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. Lunch and a late afternoon dinner will be served.

You can pre-register by contacting Doris Edwards FOMV.LCO@gmail.com. Please include your full name, your T-shirt size and include the words ‘Muir Valley Trail Day Volunteer’ in the subject line.

Thanks very much to all of you for what you have done to help make Muir Valley one of the nicest places to climb in the Eastern U.S.

Rick and Liz

10k + visitor days, would that be about 30 people per day every day of the year? wow. considering torrent was asking a dollar or two for a visit that'd add up. but alas, mob rules.

i'd pre-register but the distance and weather just make it a play by ear game. why can't k.t. do it?

Just a reminder that Liz and I don't accept monetary donations to Muir Valley. We ARE grateful to those of you who make donations to the Friends of Muir Valley - a separate organization that has been wonderfully supportive. For sure, a dollar or two per visitor would really help the FoMV maintain climbing routes and trails here, but in reality, donations average about 7 cents per visitor.

Rick-I'm not sure why you quote me.

I offered a hypothetical valuation based on the similar voluntary approach with the comparison of potential outcomes as a bonus. Was anybody confused? Nonetheless, good luck with the event, I notice on the FoMV site that there is also some ongoing voluntary projecting implemented earlier this year, maybe a flyer at climber's campgrounds to get word out?
