yes. thoughts? that is a very nicely diagrammed x-ray. though not the orthopedist, a doctor told me....apparently the scaphoid has a blood vessel that runs through a hole/tunnel within the bone, so if not adequately and properly cared for and immobilized, one can loose bloodflow to the thumb and potentially the thumb itself...i believed it, so eventhough it's not particularly painful, I'd convalesce for a month or more.

recovery time is usually about 6 weeks for most bones. bike riding or snowboarding/skateboarding?

don't rush anything, and take your time. unfortunately, a broken carpal means that you can't play xbox. :(

i thought i broke my scaphoid last weekend, but it turns out i broke my radius instead. they told me 6 weeks.

in the meantime i'm spending time on the treadmill and trying to eat right. don't take ibuprofen - my dr. told me there's something in it that slows bones healing. take tylenol instead. someone else told me almonds are good to promote healing. don't know if that's true or not, but they're tasty so i have no objections. oh - and make sure you hold your hand up to reduce the swelling. dr. said to elevate it while sleeping.

good luck & have a speedy recovery

I took bone, flesh and cartilage from Nature's Way and I think it helped a lot.

don't take Tylenol either unless you are in pain. a lot of medicines can inhibit recovery times/immune system responses etc., and since Tylenol is NOT an NSAID then there is no benefit from reduced inflammation.

As for the almonds, no that is not true, but any of the hippie/natural cure things can be effective if you really believe it will work, it's that whole placebo thing. The best medicine is rest, so resist all urges to climb.

Yeah, medical studies performed by scientists testing the nutritional value of almonds and the NIH recommending people eat almonds to help prevent osteoporosis is a bunch of hippie crap. There's a lot of crap spewed by hippies but the nutritional benefits of almonds is not one of them.

You had to say it didn't you Gripster. You had to say that it was a placebo. In effect, trying to harm hippies by planting the seed of doubt. That wasn't very nice.
