I have most of these issues buried somewhere in the basement. All of these were scanned some time ago and I'm sure more current technology would result in better images. I don't know if anyone is up to putting in the effort though?Jay wrote:That's awesome Bill! Do you have a copy with a better scan where I could read the rest of the article?

"Be responsible for your actions and sensitive to the concerns of other visitors and land managers. ... Your reward is the opportunity to climb in one of the most beautiful areas in this part of the country." John H. Bronaugh
Does a local even check the forcast?

piggy, thats because you only know me by my judeo christian white mans name. Ever hear of the Krampmaster P. Thats what I thought, I'm a pretty big deal around here.pigsteak wrote:its OK kramp....people claim local status when it benefits them, and deny it when they think it won't be cool. you, my friend, are a total sell out and have no street cred to blemish in the first place.

How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared
You can take this scenario and put it near another mountainous area, and it would be the same situation - that visitors to the area are more likely to eschew the dangers of the area and act carelessly. It's not saying that Buckeyes are stupid, but it clearly speaks to how visitors are plainly ignorant (that means "lacking knowledge" despite it's contemporary connotation) of the dangers that could befall them on their weekend of endless drinking and hot dogs around the campfire. Locals or even better, those native to the region, have a sense of awareness as though it's part of their blood.bcombs wrote:
The other thing to consider is how many unique visitors are there from Ohio, N KY, etc...
Let's say Bob lives in Lexington. Actually, for the sake of this conversation let's call him Billy Bob. Billy Bob goes to the Gorge every weekend from April to October. For every trip he makes there is a green buckeye on their way down as well. The Ohitian (he he) has never been to the Gorge and so is more likely to get lost, disoriented, and fall off a cliff. Billy Bob knows the woods like the back of his hand because he's been here the previous 20 weekends in a row.
The point of the quips is to get a rise out of you all. It's so cute.
