ahab-i'm not feeling particularly sympathetic to your choice to see exaggerated importance where you might have seen generosity, optimism, even faith for god's sake.
but, as much as i've enjoyed JATD's, it might be worth exploring the possibility of establishing 'ongoing' projects that could be worked on over a period of time...even lazily on rest days for people who might like to pitch in but driving long distances just doesn't work economically unless staying for more than 2 days...and in the heat....to tired to climb even a half day...

how long have you been climbing/coming to the gorge?? 4 years
how many trail days have you taken part in?? 1. Wasn't in the state last year and in-laws were in for the weekend this year. Maybe next.
have you lived at the gorge/miggies/etc and not taken part?? why? No, live in Richmond and commuting is easy and getting back to a warm bed with my wife is much nicer then a thermarest and drunks keeping me up.
I also like the idea of having an ongoing project or list of projects so that I could have an idea where I could help at.

trail building is bad for the environment and is harmful to wildlife... Lurps are trained to never enter and exit an area the same, it sticks with you.
