Almost died

Post by Spragwa »

I didn't want to push Bo's memorial thread off but I wanted to post this 'cause it scared the piss outa me. Yesterday, I was driving home from Frankfort Ky. to Lexington at appx. 65 mph in the pooring rain. My steering wheel started to jiggle a bit and was making a funny noise. So I'm thinking aw hell this sucks. I call my brother, who is a mechanic, and he says it's probably an axle and to bring it to him. So I drive by my mama's house, 'cause I'm a baby and wanted to whine. When I leave, my tie rod end in my front left wheel disengages. Had this happened 45 minutes earlier, I'd be dead or seriously hurt. WHOOOAH. This scared me.

Don't be paranoid but you should have that looked at for tampering. They vibrate alot more for a long time before they break loose. No shit! I'm telling you the truth.

Yikes! My bro was thinking that it was a gradual thing that I accepted and got used to. I did notice vibrating but since I take my lil beater back in the Southern region, I just thought that it needed an alignment or to have the rotors turned. He he. I shouldn't think, it hurts.

Your bushing probably went bad along time ago. It can be hard to notice... some vibrate more than others when this happens. Tampering is always a possiblilty but wouldn't it have been easier to cut the breaks or remove/loosen a valve stem? I used to be into off-road, breaking a tie rod in the front end wasn't all that uncommon, especially in the ole clunkers. Try driving down the highway at 55 mph with 38 inch tires and having all your lugs shear off because they are old and rusted. Were talking your tire flying into oncoming traffic, your truck sliding into a ditch... bad experiences. I'm thinking of buying a bicycle.

Glad to hear you're ok! Isn't it great to have family that work on cars? Saves a lot of money too.

MY wife's passenger side front wheel fell of as we were turning into someone's driveway. The axle pulled out of the transmission (FWD car). 30 seconds earlier we had been going 60.

She had just had an alignment.

WOW! My car's all better now. It is great to have a family member work on my car...they have a vested interest in making sure that I stay alive and well.
