injury on right side; pain around lower right rib

Post by Danny »

I was pulling with my right arm out to the side and twisting my torso in a way that would engage those muscles along the lower right side. I felt a sharp pain in the lower right side about 4 inches above the pointy hip bone. Currently the pain isn't sharp but it hurts and feels really uncomfortable. If I push on the lower right rib or around that area it hurts more. Anyone had this or know anything about it?

I've recently had some minor pain in this area (and also on the left side) from engaging these muscles, but this time it felt like something really kind of blew a gasket.

Ah, the quest for the Internet MD...

It's probably just some kind of pulled muscle. But if you feel you 'really blew a gasket', then you should go to the doctor.

Replace the gasket, using a nitrile blend if you think it will be in contact with oil, red silicone if high heat is present or pure gum rubber if a lower durameter is in order.

It's very painful today. When I feel like I have to sneeze I panic cause it feels like I'm getting stabbed in the side.

That is puzzling. When you breath deeply does it hurt? Yes or no to this question probes possible injury to the diaphragm/ ribs. Is your pain related to breathing?

It's most likely where the abdominal internal oblique attaches to the last floating rib. Maybe the attachment to the rib got ripped a bit. If you push on your right side just under the last rib and lean to your left you can feel this muscle contract. I thought this might be a more common injury among climbers since this muscle is used a lot. I guess not. I've been swimming a lot so I'm wondering if this muscle got too strong before the attachments to the bone had time to strengthen. I've been noticing it a bit on both sides over the last month or so. It's also possible that the muscle was worn out from swimming and more vulnerable to tearing. I swam a bunch the day before I hurt it climbing.

Caribe, breathing doesn't hurt unless it is a very force exhalation. Sneezing hurts more than anything.

Sounds like gas, or you are about 3 bm's behind schedule. Drink some coffee and smoke a few cigarettes.
