who gives a rats ass what if stuff is soft at Muir, just climb the damn thing. some stuff there is easy for the grade and some isn't, I've found soft grades at old established crags like Long Wall as well as new places like Muir and the PMRP

there are also a few that are sandbagged... someone already mentioned practice wall, I remember a 5.8 feeling like a 10a up there but I don't remember the name. Revenge of the Sith is way harder than 10c and Where's My cChisel is a 5.9 that I couldn't even get up! I don't remember specifically all the routes that I personally thought were soft, but I do remember thinking that several routes at bruisebrothers felt a full grade easier than they should... I think a lot of the routes FEEL softer maybe because the bolts are so close together at muir, so it's not as mentally commiting as the rest of the gorge. Wish I could help a little more. I think the online guide consensus grades are usually pretty spot on.
I would leave them the way they are rated...people are climbing there and it is private land. Let the Rick be the one who decides to change it. Personally if a new person come to my land to climb I rather him get on something he thought it was easier than getting in something they might get hurt because of the grading. It is all climbing and who cares about the grade.

just because one route isnt soft that means everything is not soft right? Love the logic.JR wrote:Name Dropper is in Muir Valley and it is not soft.

i thought dyn-o-mite, black powder, send me on my way and rats stew were all a bit soft.
i thought the grades at the bowling alley were all a bit stiff.
when i was beginning, i personally fell into the trap of "i can bolt to bolt the 10s at tectonics wall so surely i can bolt to bolt Sunsine" took a nasty fall on sunshine and learned my lesson that some routes are stiffer than others and to take a grade as a general idea, not a firm guideline.
