Ew, ucky, poo!!

Post by Meadows »

There are some areas in the Red, particularly a certain spot at the Motherlode that is seeing an accumulation of waste products. Shit, tp, feminine sanitary products all gathering up in a little location within a drip line.

I've seen multiple discussions in the past with people heralding their opinions or stating clear ethics. All good stuff, but what can we as a community do to encourage these ethics? So, I want to start a discussion on gathering ideas.

My thoughts are as follows (refute, agree, add to ... whatever):

1. Handing out Leave No Trace pamplets or print up a list of highlights from the How to Shit in the Woods.

2. Create a tshirt that we can all purchase (at cost) with some ethics.

3. Hang some shovels in popular defecation spots.

4. Provide a container in the ML Shit Hell with plastic bags (to carry out waste). Who wants to design?

5. Hang some LNT or our own ethics posters.

6. Let Rick Bost go to busy crags and give a live demonstration of How to Shit in the Woods.

7. Plant hidden cameras and post offending actions all over YouTube, Facebook and popular climbing sites. Halting defecation through defamation.

I like option 7 the best with option 4 being a more practical choice. I understand that there are "emergencies", but I've never really understood why people shit at crags. Where do they think it's going to go?

When you see someone heading down the undertow wall with TP in their hand, no shovel, and they are back in less than 2 mins you know they didn't dig a cat hole. So give em' hell right then and there.

pamplets, that way ill have something to wipe with.

ill gladly play poopgard. ill patrol the woods and rub noses in it if i find offenders.

the shovel otion, kinda, but really i don't think they would use it.

we need to just get some shit eating dogs.

i also vote for the rick option.

lets discern that ethics begin and end with do I hangdog or not, the other "crap" is simply am I an asshole or not, as for the solution to the problem I'm willing to go with the flow but I just can't understand the draw of concentrating these urges in a single area as you describe.oh excuse me I have to go to the bathroom... guess what there isn't one at the Lode or anywhere in the southern region so LNT actions need to be followed, great that in the 21st century we are having a discussion of how to poop in the woods, speaks volumes

Wow, looks like I posted in the link thread about 10 minutes too early-

Also, shouldn't KD be on poop patrol?

Yeah, just think of all the stories KD could have from the Lode. Like, "I unloaded next to Dave Graham".

some of us are not morning shitters and cannot simply "hold it" for hours on end.

another option for those that must go, rather than digging a hole, pack it out. most of us clean up after our dogs when we take them out on walks in the neighborhood, so there's no reason you can't clean up after yourself!

Restop is the best brand i've found. It contains the smell, provides plenty of TP and even a hand wipe.

(note: i would not use the "wag bag" brand unless you're shitting in winter. they don't contain the smell!)

sometimes ya gotta go, expecially if the chevron breakfast sandwiches are one of your faves. Personally, I like the pamphlet idea along with the shovel hanging. The load is nasty over there, I am always afraid of unburying someone elses doo
