Interested in private camping near Southern Region?

If it were possible, how interested would you be in a private camping area with tent camping, bunkhouses, cabins, a restaraunt and showers within five miles of the Motherlode, Drive-By, Oil Crack Crag and the Arena?

Sounds great to me, Miguel's will survive. People who want pizza will still drive to Miguel's, but I for one would definitely use facilities located closer to the southern region.

i think that would be great, I would use them. I personally think miguel would like the break if he even got one from it. i don’t think he would get a break in customers, he is the number 2 reason why climbers come to the gorge.i remember back in the day when the loveshack was still standing. Twelve people was a busy night and you had to wait until miguel closed the door and went home for the night to shove money under the door because he wouldn’t take it. Oh the good ol’ days!

I ask because there is an existing business in the area that is considering adding these amenities and is looking to target climbers and other recreational users. I placed the poll to get an idea what climbers think of the idea and if it would be reasonable to assume that climbers would take to something like this.

It is not my family's business and I have no personal interest in the matter other than to help these people out in trying to decide how to market their business. They've recently lost a large portion of their income due to circumstances out of their control and are looking for ways to bring in new income.

This is something that if it happens will probably happen pretty soon .They are already set up to do this kind of thing, just for a different group of users.

Personally, if I were coming from out of town I would go for the most convenient place, not the place with the most ambiance. But I am not the majority, and I realize this. That's why I asked for other people's opinions.

excellent point... I forgot about Roadside closing. It's going to be crazy at Miguel's soon.

Think about this: Free camping is an endangered species at the Red. Parking passes and the closing of Roadside have eliminated some of the more convenient free camping. There is still free camping to be had, you just have to know where to go, but it's getting harder and harder to find. It's virtually non-existant if you're coming in blind from out of town.

Now, if you have to choose between pay camping opportunities aren't you going to try to get your money's worth? I refuse to pay for camping unless there are at the very least nice restrooms. And the pit toilets at Table Rock parking lot don't count.

I thought people were crazy for donating money to Miguel before he had restrooms and showers. That place was a real dump a few years ago. Close your mouths...it's the truth. You were paying for ambiance, not facilities. THings are different now and much nicer than a lot of commercial campgrounds I've slept at. But there is plenty of business to go around, huh?
