benckmark, to me, means it is a sandbagged line that folks like to smile when mentioning it. call me cynical.

yeah i have to agree, but i am cynical. it seems like lines that tend to get downgraded, or are attempted to be downgraded, are lines that are classic and see a lot of traffic. ro shampo is a classic example.

that's what climbing 5.12 and above gives a person....we are able to spray down on those poor schmucks who ONLY climb 10's and 11's....

although I did have a buddy onsight my projs at the Surf and think the 12's were a bit light..talk about taking the bravado out of my sails.

i wouldn't know. i can barely climb the 11s out there. i used ESBR as an example b/c what i have been on there seemed solid/stiff in comparison to other areas.

also, to clarify my intent: i just wanted to get a grade debate going to clear out some of the trad vs. sport stuff. now that this has turned into a not so subtle stroke fest, i'm off to start a poll on what belay device beginners should use...
