Decent bouldering in the RRG

Post by Sco Bro »

Sure, you thought I was going to ask some stupid question about whether there's bouldering in the RRG. Sorry to disappoint.

So rumor has it there's some potential, in a new area, courtesy of the dreaded Pigsteak. . . .pictures are forthcoming.

I found a great, very solid roof, with potential for 5 or 6 high quality lines. More lines if you are willing to do linkups. It even tops out. There is definitely potential out there, you just have to find it.

my guess is that if plants stopped growing and rain stopped falling, dbnf would be a bouldering mecca.

heh. i was just talking about how much cooler the south would be if a really wide 14k foot volcano had popped up in mississippi about ten or so thousand years ago. the southwest slope would be a jungle and everything to the east?

drier. mecca. etc.

Southern Illinois has a lot of the same plant and rain problems, but there is a lot of developed quality bouldering there, I think in the red, it just gets ignored, Why spend all day on one boulder, when there is a lifetime of routes right next to it.

I don't think so Jordan. Several people(Chris Redman,Chris Chenney) have spent years looking for boulders and have found next to nothing of quality.

I have to say that is surprising. I have never went to the gorge looking for bouldering, but it seems like there a lot of boulders around. oh well, it is not like you have to far from the gorge to get to some decent bouldering.

the central and northern portions of the DBNF have a few good problems here and there, but the good stuff is in the southern portions of the state: rockcastle drainage. cumberland falls. and the BSF. http://furyregister.wordpress.com/

crumbled mini-bluffs with bomber rock. water polished bullet sandstone. etc. etc. etc. the number of quality problems within a few hours of lexington tripled last winter. i expect it to do the same this year....
