ok, as the forum bot, I am thoroughly confused. Rhunt and myself accused the "inner circle" of playing this game by their own set of arbitrary rules. If they were personally offended or had a friend who was hurt, they would sic some big bad "authority" on the trangressor.
If it helps at all, I love this site. However, it does not shed particularly good light on the clmbing community as a whole, if it is representational. The so called agreement, with its "no profanity" clause is a joke. The sexist, homo phobic, or baby killing threads are down right embarassing. If we want to be taken seriously as a concerned user group, i am afraid that the "powers that be" would look at this gathering of fine folks and just laugh us off. we are not a force to be reckoned with...only a fringe group to be monitored and policed. This site resembles a teen chat room more than an information source. (Ray's excellent PDF's being the exception.)
I am 100% against censorship. I honestly don't know what the answer is.

Pigsteak, I agree with part of your statement. I must admit, I have personally used more profanity than I should in many of my rebuttals and statements.
Regarding the perception of this fine group, I do have a slightly different take. If we take a look at the threads registering the most hits we probably will find they fall into one of two categories, “humor” or “political debate”. Although the humor is often off the wall and sometime sick it is still humor. Humor in itself requires intellect.
In regards to legitimate “political debate” this requires each side to research and examine a giving subject enough to form an opinion.
Combine the two and you have an “opinionated intellect”. Motivate this group towards a common cause or political enemy and my guess is you would have one hell of a fight on your hands.
