when i'm in kentucky i call it the gorge, and - get this - people (climbers and non) know what i'm talking about. it doesnt seem necessary to point out which gorge i'm heading to when one of them is 60 miles from my driveway. but if i happen to be outta town? the red. i don't wanna make climbers bleed out of there eyes trying to sort through some unnecessary geographical mind-bender.
i'm gentle with the rock people.
Please correct me if I'm wrong...
Being from cbus we have the red river gorge and the new river gorge as equal distance choices, so we always needed to make a distinction- the Red or the New. Although the Red is hardly a "gorge" compared to the New. Can someone tell me where the actual gorge is at the red river gorge?

It's all about: Where you're from - Geographic Name - Popular Name
Examples:
Kentucky/Ohio - Red River Gorge - The Gorge
West Virginia/DC - New River Gorge - The Gorge
Bishop/Reno - Owens River Gorge - The Gorge
Louisville - Pru - The Gorge
Exactly!
