You may as well check out the Bourbon Trail. http://www.kybourbontrail.com/#
Are you looking mainly for family activities or nightlife as well? A good restaurant/bar is cumberland brews, great food and great beer. Lynn's paradise cafe is trendy and kinda touristy now adays but it may be what your looking for as well for an eclectic meal. Don't bother with fourth street unless you are big into mainstream bs. Lots of decent food places including jamacan, mexican, myan, Mediterranean, breakfast, indian, or just plain pub fair. Thirsty thursdays at a river bat's game (baseball) has dollar beers and live music. If they happen to be here during the last week of any summer month then going to waterfront wednessday is a must (5pm to 9pm)
How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared
Louisville has the Speed Art Museum. The Big South Fork is great; however, ticks are really bad here this time of year. If your friends do come to this area, don't forget Cumberland Falls (check for moonbow nights), and, of course, Lake Cumberland. If history is of interest, then:
Fort Harrod in Harrodsburg
My Old Kentucky Home in Bardstown
The William Whitley House (oldest brick house west of the Allegany Mountains and the first horse race track in America) Stanford
The Casius Clay House in Richmond
Fort Boonesboro in Boonesboro
Pine Mountain State Park and Chain Rock in Pineville

What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.
