is all of his/her gear look like it just got the tags pulled off last night.

does s/he wear a brain bucket on well traveled sport routes.

does s/he give advice to obviously more experienced climbers.

does s/he go to mig's and spray loudly about all his/her sends on the roadside 10 wall.

there have got to be more, anyone?

his/her harness has two or more "belay cardS" attached to it - this is also usually the same person putting that harness on in the parking lot.

his/her equally gumby belayer is standing 6 feet away attached to a tree while lead belaying and when the leader falls at the first bolt and simultaneously smashes his/her face on the rock and nutz/flower on the rope they both look at each other and utter "whoa dude what happened?" and then proceed to do it again.

Friends don't let friends have anything that could be misinterpreted as gumby. I have such caring friends. When one of them saw a shiny new cam on my rack, standing out like Caribe at the crag, they immediately took it off and scraped it against the rock for me just so no one else would see it. Crisis averted.

perfect gumby...shiny cams after years of "climbing" on them.

taking falls usually helps wear them in, or use saxman's method of pretending to actually use trad gear.

Gear hanging off of your harness while you toprope routes doesn't count.

if you spend more time on the internet making up sayings about gumbies than climbing.... you may need a life

we don't have "sport" climbs here in NC like you do in kentucky, so i am guessing my cams have seen more action then yours ever will, assuming you even own any trad gear

I climb trad maybe once or twice every other month, none of my cams are shiny.
