The ongoing weekend idiot report

went to the New. went to a trad crag (Junkyard)...two huge groups (total of at least 15 people) had top ropes (8-10 ropes between the two groups)) hung on virtually every classic line at the crag...problem was, less than half of the ropes were being climbed on at any one time. I finally asked and pulled a rope, and then had to re-hang their line when finished. seems to me that standard courtesy for a large group would dictate not hanging ropes on every classic at the crag.

I had some memorable memorial day weekend gumby experiences. We headed to Muir and avoided crowds for the first half of the day at Coyote cliff but then headed to Practice wall to do the new-ish 11 down there. the group of people on the 5.6 chimney were really impressed we were doing something "hard". Sunday we headed to Tower Rock and as we did Curving Crack 6 college boys came up with two backpacks worth of gear between all of them. One guy proceeded to climb Caver's while his buddies heckled him from the ground. when the second was ready to go he asked us to tie his not because he didn't know how to! after he got ~20 feet up to the first big ledge, he took off his harness, still tied in, and passed it down so the next guy could come up. we left at this point b/c we didn't want to be there when something really bad happened. oh, and we saw two tweens solo 20 feet up a crack as their parents watched. i was impressed no one got hurt.

if some entitled climber pulls my rope after i arrived plenty early to claim every route at the wall you're damn right they're gonna hang it back up! sheesh pigsteak, where is your common courtesy?

"yeah, i don't use climbing shoes. my teacher says cheating is wrong."

you know....there is a part of me that wonders how much gumbyism we all play a part in. grabbing draws, lowering off anchors. wearing your rack to miggies (even though just to prove a point ) ect......one day i have a feeling someone in my clan is going to end up on this board....not for the intended reasons
