Both are decent gyms. Rocksport leans towards routes and hesters towards bouldering.

Is Mike Hunt your cousin by any chance? Gyms? Everyone is always telling me that people climb all winter at RRG, calling it the 'best season' of the year.

both gyms have their faults. If you are looking to rope up dont bother with hesters. if you do not boulder v6+ you will run out of problems at hesters pretty fast. that being said the problems change fairly often and the holds are cleaned and more varied.

if you are looking for a gym that changes routes often and cleans holds, dont bother with rocksport(some routes are rs are almost a year old). as of right now RS has one boulder problem in the gym, it has been there since their comp last january. That being said if you want to do laps on routes and get some endurance in this could be your place.

Best bet is to try both and decide for yourself, or do what i do and get a membership at both. they supplement each other nicely

I've not been to Hester's but I can't stand Rocksports. The people there are very cool, the owner is great, but the routes absolutely suck and rarely if ever change. I went there maybe 8 times over the course of 3 years and even at that very infrequent rate, the routes were always the same. Also, I noted the last few times I went that not only where the routes not being changed, the quality of the routes went from pretty good to totally retarded. YMMV. And I haven't been back in a couple of years, so maybe they have better route setters now. I'd go to the gym in Cincy if you feel the need to pull plastic - I hear it (one of them?) is great.
climbing is dumb
