First, Maine has always been AMAZINGLY tolerant of both my dogs. She understands that Dakota, while very sweet, is old and not into young kids. When I'm climbing or belaying, her and Kevin keep her very curious little girls away from Dakota. (Maxwell could be run over by 12 little kids and care less). When I'm right there by Dakota, the very curious and intelligent little girls are free to pet Dakota and I am responsbile for the dog's behavior. But I am always responsible for my dogs' behavior. Period, end of sentence. When I've seen them, Maine and Kevin have always taken responsibility for their kids. And I've had situations where I've had to chase parents down and tell them that their child is chasing my dog around and sticking his face in hers despite her efforts to get away. Not cool.
I think it is ridiculous to allow dogs to run around hell bent for leather without talking to people at the crag and guaging their tolerance levels. I would be horrified to learn that someone else's experience was ruined by Dakota and Maxwell. Unless those people were just jerks about having well-behaved dogs at the crag...and I did say well-behaved
Jesus only knows that she tries too hard. She's only trying to keep the sky from falling.
Personally, I'm not a "dog at the crag" fan. That said, there are LOTS of dogs that I've been around at the crag that are a joy to have around. I think their owners are crazy for going through all the trouble, but I have a daughter, which at one time was even more work than their dogs. However, not generally a fan.
BUT...
I've been annoyed by idiot humans at the crag FAR more often than I've been annoyed by dogs. So please, keep your idiot friends at home when you come to the crag.
Thanks.

This thread is disappointing. I'm disappointed by those of you who are unwilling to yield and consider that indeed, there are times (kids or no kids) that dogs need to be leashed at the cliff. If this thread had started because a pack of dogs ran by and knocked Maine off her feet while she was belaying would we see the same hatred and vitriol? I don't think so. Add the taboo “children in the Redâ€
