Home climbing walls

Post by swimbikerun »

I just began building a wall in my garage. I have some holds already but am looking to get some more. Anyone know of a good place to get them at a decent price? Also anyone else who has built walls have any pictures or advice to share?

you can make your own holds with polyester urethane resin (car bondo), some clay, and sand... they turn out really nice, although it takes some work to perfect. It's about 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of buying commercial holds. Also, Ebay has great deals sometimes.

One of my hateful neighbors went to the city and complained that i built my wall without a permit. The inspectors came out and I will have to pay a large fine because of this. What pains me is that the agency that is fining me told me that since it was a recreational structure it didnt need a permit. Now they are going the other way. This will probably cost me a court date or two and a couple of thousand in fines as well as legal fees. I already had to hire a builder to advise me on code for the inspections and draw a plan to submit for the permits. Make sure you have a permit if its needed and get any answers from your city in writing.
