Well that brings up another question. my cat has the option to go outside but chooses to stay in. However, is it humane to make your cat stay inside all the time? Would you not want to be euthanised if you had to remain inside all the time, its like prison. A risk of death outside is a small price for freedom is it not.pru wrote:People really shouldn't let their cats roam outdoors and this kind of thing wouldn't happen.
Dead cats are'nt much fun
How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared
My cats are happier than most and they do not go outside unattended. Death from fighting, people poisoning or otherwise hurting them (because plenty of people have an irrational hatred of cats and do these things. It happened to one of mine many, many years ago), or dying by the side of the road because most people are assholes and won't stop to help are all not good trade-offs in my opinion. Is that what your cat thinks? Do they sit and stair longingly out the window and attempt escape at every opportunity? Some do, and some don't, as I said, mine has the option as I have installed a cat door in my window and she seldom uses it, she would rather hang inside with me and the dog, but if I have been gone for a few days she ventures out.

You are anthropomorphizing, Krampus. I don't do that. However I do a lot to make sure my cats are happy, exercised and entertained in their safe home, or out in our back yard when I am with them. It is my responsibility to keep them safe and healthy and happy and they are all these things. No one is going to mow them down with cars, feed them radiator fluid or shoot pellets into their hides. The fact remains that if people wouldn't let their cats roam, they wouldn't be hit by cars - whether you agree with the rationale or not.
