Found a few bumpy lumpy nodule like things in a new rope we were climbing on. Brand new PMI 60M bi-color 10.5 dry treated rope that had these funky bumps in it. You could feel them when flaking the rope, you could really feel them under load. Took the rope back to REI (like Wal-Mart or Lowe's, you really can return anything to REI) got a refund and we went straight to the hot knife and found this...
I'm not familiar with how they actually make ropes but I wonder if that's from somehow switching spools and reattaching strands? cool that you got a refund!
