Break-ins come in waves. And they're usually localized to one region or another, though you should assume anywhere that you could be broken into. Thieves are opportunistic.
Don't take valuable on your trip with you that you'll have to leave in your vehicle. Leave electronic gadgets, daypacks, cameras and stuff like that AT HOME unless you plan on carrying it all with you to the crag. Also, don;t leave CD cases in the car.
Hiding stuff in the car out of sight is good, but if there is one thing that attracts a thief to break into your car they'll find everything you hid.
Plan ahead, make your car empty. During one outbreak a few years ago people were leaving a bare vehicle with windows down and doors unlocked. Of course that leaves you open to having your battery stolen.
Be smart and plan accordingly. Out of state tags are special targets. Carpool from Miguel's or the rest area.
