Unfortunately there are probably about 5 fraudulent sites for every 1 legit site when it comes to cameras. Resellerratings is a life saver.
I paid $800 for my XSi+kit lens about 6 months ago and that was the cheapest anywhere. It saddens me to see the same setup for $500+ now... but you have to accept that when it comes to electronics.
If the price seems too good to be true... it probably is.
DSLR Suggestions
My experience from when I was selling cameras is that any retailer who was vastly undercutting B+H, Samy's Camera, or Adorama was almost always fraudulent. Those were and continue to be "The Big Three," and they are selling their products at retail prices that are essentially all other stores' wholesale prices.
I agree with the shopping local aspect IF you have a knowledgeable, helpful sales associate who is putting in the time to really help you make the right decision. If you already know what you want, or the only salespeople you can find in your area are pushy idiots, don't hesitate to go to B+H or the like- you'll typically save 10-20%, maybe even more, and you wont have to pay sales tax.

Look into the Sony Alpha Series cameras, also Pentax cameras are rated for water resistance.
Sony has a few nice features. Auto eye start and image stabilized bodies. Sony also accepts Minolta lenses.
Pentax is made more rugged and will cost a little more than the others, but if you really want great pictures it is worth it.

At the very least, a gumby has flexibility!
So, I have been thinking about doing some kind of free class at the red. Not so much climbing photography, but just a general digital photo thing. Maybe just a couple hours one weekend afternoon, or even a weekday evening, just wondering if many people would show up? Also, thinking about a longer (2-3 days), paid class that would be more focused on advanced stuff and climbing photography, but no idea if there is enough demand for that?John E wrote:Are there any good beginner/intermediate d-SLR classes in Lexington?
