Transportation to and from Lexington.

I have a month free this summer to do whatever I want and I am thinking of going to the red. The problem is that I am from the Atlanta area and I do not have a car. I was thinking of taking a grey hound bus to lexington and then seeing if I could hitch a ride with someone to Miguels who is already on the way (I will chip in for gas). The trip is going to be between May 10th and June 10th. If I get round trip tickets I will save 50$, and my question is whether it would be feasible to assume I could hitch a ride to and from Lexington from miguels if I were willing to chip in for gas?
