Already happened in this state 6% on April 1st. See Frankfort doesn't just hate smokers. Sin taxes are the easy way out. Total tax reform for the Commonwealth NOW! Ahhh what do I care I'm moving.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

+1. The alternative is more big government with inefficient tolls, or even big brother with GPS in our cars. Raise the gas tax if need be!!!! Or better yet, the government should learn to make do with less (that is what we do in hard times).

I also find it amazing how the government pushes conservation and alternative fuels, and now complains about it. If (a really big if) we all start driving electric cars - simply transition the tax to electricity (which is already taxed). NO NEW TAXES!!

Apparently the administration was surprised by the negative reaction to the transportation secretary's trial balloon. Obama now says no way. Watch out, this idiotic idea will likely return.
