So what are the forest service regulations for trail clean up? Are chain saws allowed onforest service lands? The lower region Im sure is F@#$ed and will need help.

The Darkside trail is a total mess. Same goes for road/trail up to the far side. Would have cleared 'em but stupidly left the chainsaw behind.

I am trying to get in touch with the Forest Service and have left a message for them to call me back. I suppose they have all hands mobilized in the cleanup but maybee with predicted rain they'll have a chance to call back tomorrow. Normally for trail work they require a signed volunteer form and that volunteers wear hardhats.

On the Darkside trail, if there are any good long sections of trees, leave them intact for down hill side re inforcement.

it's public land, go ahead and remove the trees yourselves

it's also better to just go ahead and do it and tell them after the fact (to stay on the same page). otherwise everyone just jumps through hoops and it is silly (like volunteer forms)

So, tree across trails can be a little bit inconvenient, but the real issue is all the trees and large branches hanging off the tops of the crags, or high up in trees. Ever see even a smaller sized tree fall 100 feet? Pretty impressive. So, next time you are climbing, beware of what you are climbing under. Esp. if the wind is blowing or it has been raining/snowing/ice.
