Great article in Sunday's Herald Leader
Miguel kindly allowed the coalition to put a donation box for anchor replacement at his place and it caused him some irritation. People ended up asking him and his staff a bunch of questions about it. You know how busy he gets. He's still been great about everything. But it might be a good idea to put the donation box at the RRGCC kiosk. If we had people to collect regularly. Hmm Hadn't thought of that.

Okay, since people have asked...
The "half-naked" was unintentionally taken out of context. I was talking to him about the real possiblity of development reaching the Southern region. Then I said, imagine a non-climber building a cabin right here. They wouldn't want to stare out the window in the morning and see a bunch of half-naked climbers hanging around on ropes. Of course...if they saw some of the guys I climb with...then hey, they might be all for it. I was just trying to give him an example of the types of unforseeable threats to access from which we are trying to guard. Dumb, I know. Tape my mouth shut...sure. But I'll never call a route a root.

A friend of mine said he is surprised that developer from Ohio who is buying up the rest of the Gorge hasn't bought anything in the Southern Region. He figures the price must be too high for him. He also said a LOT of the land is being bought up by the "Ohio ATV Enthusiasts" we all know and love.

The beauty of a newspaper article is that it lands you on the Associated Press wires. Which allow other newspapers, radio, television stations, an other media outlets to gain access to the news.

Rock climbers' group launches plan to buy land near gorge
--------------------------------------------------------------------
(Zoe-AP) -- A group of Kentucky rock climbers wants to buy two
tracts of land near the Red River Gorge. They want to ensure that
climbers will have a place to go in the future.
The Red River Gorge Climbers' Coalition says it is willing to
pay 350-thousand dollars for the approximately 700 acres, which
include miles of overhanging cliffs.
The money would come from fund-raising efforts. Rock climbing is
not allowed on state-owned land such as Natural Bridge State Resort
Park. Also, the U-S Forest Service recently put more than a dozen
climbing routes in the gorge off-limits while it studies how to
protect archaeological sites and endangered species.
The land the climbers are eyeing is in northern Lee County, and
adjoins Daniel Boone National Forest land owned by the forest
service.
The group says it would likely open the land for other
recreational uses.

I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

The Kentucky Post picked the story up off the AP & contacted myself, Gretchen, & Jeff. A similar article to that in the Leader appeared today on the front page of the Post. Luckily, no mis-quotes concerning naked people The article is not yet available online. Feel free to link it if you are able to find it before me.
