Well...(for me) first lead fall--permanently disabled--just had 6th surgery. So I am very aware of what can happen. So, I'm pretty careful about what I climb, who belays me, etc.
Two people died at the Red this year. I have met 3 people who have decked from above 60 feet. I know three people other than me who have broken both ankles in a fall. Another person I know decked and broke his neck and back.
So..I think your kidding yourself if you think it's not dangerous. That's why it is important to be methodical and have backup systems and procedures. It's much safer if you always climb with the same people and don't forget to always check what you are doing.

Hauling a big ego up a route adds at least a full grade.

300 footer, seriously. June '79. In Tetons, solo route, about 60 in the air, then glancing (thank goodness) bounce, spin, slide, shred through the next 200+ ft on steep snow while trying to self arrest with ice axe fastened with leash, but instead getting beat like a dog by the flailing tool. Just bought a new helmet in Jackson the day before. Cleaned up some cuts, bruises and shit load in my pants. Since I still climb, proves I'm brain dead ever since.
