FRENCHBURG, Ky. -- A rock climber from Louisville has been taken to a Lexington hospital after a weekend fall in the Red River Gorge.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported the man's name was not released, but said he was 33 years old and that officials said he survived a 180-foot fall at the popular eastern Kentucky rock climbing area.
Menifee County Rescue Captain Darrell Rogers said more than 30 people helped with the rescue on Frog's Head Rock near Frenchburg.
The victim was climbing with three others Saturday and was rappelling down the cliff when he apparently lost his grip and fell onto the rocks below.
He was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

"Frogs Head" is a formation by Indian Staircase that is popular for its' spectacular free rappel. It is really a shame that people continue to be allowed to rappel in this area because it has been totally trashed from overuse. Still too bad that someone was hurt.
