Mark Twain had a great one as well called The Ascent of the Riflehorn or something like that.

Yes, Rum Doodle is another old classic book for sure. Of course, the book '7 Years in Tibet' is indirectly about climbing too. The true life character went on to be on first ascent team of an 8,000 meter peak in 1951.
There is another great prisoner of war classic, I think called No Picnic on Mt. Kenya. It's fabulous and deserves a great movie renditon. German climbers who are POWs of the Brits down in Africa, can't stand to look out of the wire and see the mountain. So they scam up homemade gear, break out and go climb Mt. Kenya. And come back to the POW camp willingly. Brits looked upon them with some honor for that effort. Good old book to read.

auto route is cool for sport, witness this has good boone bouldering, any peter mortimer film is good for a mix of stuff, and of course free hueco
