Epic Stick clip

Post by FujManiac »

anyone have one of these?

I really like mine, it's great for hanging that first draw - however, I know there is a way to place the rope through the draw if it's already hanging, however I don't know how to do this. Anyone have any ideas? Do I need to attach another cord to it? Thanks!

Yep, I've got the 9.95 cheap one pictured too. It's only flaw is easily pulled off the stick, so I have a long keeper-cord on it too. Super' is much better; this cheap one often snaps shut mid lift just due to the weight of the rope. A 2 dollar hardware store clamp, bolted on to your stick does about as good as the 9.95 one. I've seen some who are talented enough to fast- whip a loop of rope up and into a free hanging prehung draw. 'Tis a work of cowboy lasso' style art to watch done. I figured all extreme route climbers at the Red live by the cheater''stick to do that first clip. Accepted style, so why not.

squid is better imo. With that one to get the rope up you put a biner in it and open the gate until it is caught by the "teeth" on the device. You then feed a loop of rope under the gate between it and the bottom of the biner. Some biners work better than others for that

Fuj,

Take another draw (preferably with a solid gate biner), place it in your stickclip as if ready to stick clip.

Take your rope, twist it once, maybe twice, to form a loop big enough for the hanging quickdraw's lower biner.

Thread the loop through the biner on your stickclip (remember that the rope should be twisted), then clip the gate open to hold the loop. It may be a little floppy and it'll be loosely secured - be gentle.

When you raise the stickclip, it's important to hold the rope against the stick (tentpole, whatever) so the weight of the rope doesn't pull your loop out.

Get the loop around the hanging draw, then gently pull one end of the rope to get it clipped.

Notes: this is more art than science. It may take practice. Also, not a big deal, but beware backclipping - but it's easy to figure it out once you practice a few times.

i like the squid.

it attaches to any painter's pole and it never falls off.

it clips - regardless of whether or not the draw is already on it.

it also UNCLIPS. a very handy feature indeed when i accidentally stick clip the 1st bolt of the wrong route

I know, I wish I would have done a little more research before I bought one, but I already have the epic stick clip.

Woodchuck, I went ahead and attached my clip to a pole that I had myself, and just duct taped it. It works great and never comes off! [/b]
