Gym Series

Access, Rehab Projects, Derbyfests and more...

Why am I not participating in the RRGCC Gymseries?

It's on Labor Day and Spragwa's wrong, it won't rain.

Gym Series

Post by Spragwa »

Okay everyone. The gym series hasn't received the level of interest for which I'd hoped. I want to find out where I went wrong with this so your input would be helpful.

Well... I work at a climbing gym and don't know what the hell your talking about. Maybe you should try advertising... and if you say you are, then maybe you should rethink your target group.

Send all the gyms in the surrounding areas info. That is always a good start.
Not a bitch.

Wow Andy. I can totally do that. We are having the gym fundraiser at Climbtime in Indy. I would love for you to participate, if you promise not to bite my head off.

Honestly, I've been counting on word of mouth. Key people at the gyms were "instructed" to talk it up. If you PM me your e-mail address, I can e-mail you information about it.

You should know that Andy is no a "head-biter-offer". If he says he will help, count on it!

Hey, I work at a gym, and I didn't hear anything about it (through the gym). Actually, the RRGCC doesn't seem to have much of a gym presence. Not that my sample data covers much, or that the RRGCC desires a gym presence. Maybe Cincy is too far from the gorge.

The fundraisers are on August 30 at Lexington Rocks in Lex; Climbtime in Indy and Rockquest in Cinci.
Here is a copy of the flyers we have at those gyms. Anyone interested, PM me and I'll e-mail you a sponsorship sign up sheet.

RED RIVER GORGE CLIMBERS’ COALITION
PRESENTS
MURRAY PROPERTY FUNDRAISER
CLIMB FOR ACCESS
“If we own it they can’t close it!”
What is it?
A fundraiser that allows ALL climbers to help the RRGCC purchase the Murray Property located in the Southern Region of Red River Gorge. Whether you have money to donate or if you just have one day to commit, you can help. Take a sponsorship flyer and collect $10 from 10 people or $20 from 50 people. The more money you raise, the more you help. As further motivation, once you raise over $200 ($10 from 20 people) you have the chance to get some cool prizes from some of our sponsors including: Red Bull, 5.10, Mammut and gift certificates from gear shops! The top 3 fundraisers over $200, will be eligible for prizes. START RAISING FUNDS TODAY!!!!!!!!!

What for?
The largest land purchase ever by a local climbing organization to protect continued climbing on private land is underway at the Red!!! The RRGCC has acquired an option to purchase over 700 acres of some of the best climbing in the gorge area that include--Drive-by, Oil Crack, Arena, In Between, Solar Collector, Dark Side, Gold Coast, and Bob Marley---over 150 routes ranging from, 5.6 to 5.14! The RRGCC has launched the "Murray Property Project" to raise the $350,000 (purchase price plus expenses) necessary to buy all these incredible crags. For more information on other fundraising events and opportunities, check out www.thered.org.

Why do it?
Whether you’re just starting out or have been climbing for a long time, you’ve probably heard of the unique climbing at Red River Gorge. Numerous popular crags are on Murray Property:
Ø Coal Bank – including the Dark Side, Solar Collector and The Gold Coast,
Ø Oil Crack,
Ø The Arena,
Ø In Between Wall,
Ø Bob Marley,
Ø The Drive By,
Ø & Numerous undeveloped cliffs
Even if you currently aren’t spending your time at these cliffs, you can surely appreciate the diversity that they bring to the Red. With climbs from 5.7 to 5.14, these areas make up the majority of the developed climbing on private land. Until now, climbers have been able to freely climb and develop routes on this land with the permission of the Murray family. If the RRGCC does not buy this land, the future of all of these areas is in jeopardy.

Kato, it's being held at RockQuest. I thought it would be easier for people to measure their climbs vs. bouldering it.
Just genuinely disengenuous.

If I weren't going to be climbing at the Red, I would happily head down to Indy from Chicago for this sort of thing. It's all about the date for me in this case.
