climbers that care 2008

Post by Paul3eb »

hey all,

so, if you haven't noticed, the economy's been struggling a bit. and with the holidays coming up, people on the edge are going to need a hand more than ever (any question about poverty in the area? eastern kentucky is one of the poorest areas in the country, see the links below). in the past, we've had "climbers that care" events before thanksgiving..

this year, though, we're going to be having an event at torrent on the weekend of december 13 and 14. saturday we'll have a pot luck and some music, maybe a slideshow and a movie or two.. just a chance for people to contribute and hang out and help out the local community. and if you bring something for the donations, you'll be invited to stay and climb for the day as well.

we're not going for much of anything too formal right now. just an easy evening helping folks out and hanging out with people.. bring a guitar, drums, whatever..

we've really done well in the past.. hopefully we can do the same again this year.

if you can't make it but still have donations, you can drop them off at red river outdoors at the paintball building on weekends or you can contact them: http://redriveroutdoors.com

and in case there's any confusing: this is not a rro or rrgcc event. this is just some people getting together to do some good. if you're curious about things, check out http://climbersthatcare.org. (i'll try to get the site going a bit this week)

you've amazed me and the people involved every year..

thanks all!
paul

(more details will follow.. but for now, just be sure to mark it on your calendars)

I CAN'T MAKE IT BUT HAVE AN IDEA.
Get the word out via this site for all those coming down to Miguels 25th to bring some canned goods. Can your organization set up a couple of obvious labeled barrels/boxes to collect donated canned goods? It's this weekend, Nov.21-23. With the season winding down at Miguels, just clearing out the lockers out back could result in a load right there. Just an idea.

Bump.
Try to make it down if you can. Should be a good time. Beer, food , hanging out with old and new friends, climbing at Torrent and helping the local community out in a time of need. I just cant find much bad in that.

See ya soon !

So, since the weather doesn't look all that great for at least Saturday, I will try to give you all a bit more reason to stop by with some donations...

I will set up some lighting and do photos from 2:00 til whenever Saturday - couples, family, pets, hetro life partners, etc. (I will draw the line at photos like the one on the ball scratcher guidebook page though) Just be sure to bring along something worthy for to donation pile.

Oh, and as a PS....

Since so many of you all have been getting dslrs, if you come with a nice donation, I will give you a quick photo tips class, help you set up your gear, etc.

Heh, I was a week off - thought it was this weekend...

But, will still be up for the photo stuff the 13th, no worries. And, if there is demand, I can set up something for Sunday the 14th as well.

I will definitely be there. I currently work at a bakery so I am going to pile up all of the leftover bread from this week and bring that. Can you give some more details though on exact time to meet and how the donations will be used. Thanks, see you there.
